This class focuses on the forms of lighter songs and aesthetic presentation of different varieties of Indian music like Thumri, Daadraa, Kajri, Bhajan, Raag-based Bengali songs, Old and traditional film songs, and non-film basic songs, Tagore songs, etc. The most important training you will experience here in this Soor Ranjani class is to learn the process of improvisation, which is available only in Shrutinandan. The singing style of each genre is thoroughly explained and performed by Guruji himself and his advanced performing students. Basic translation of the lyric and its internal meaning and the 'bhaav' is explained by him.

Special emphasis on Thumri style of singing is the most interesting part of this class because after the demise of great Thumri singers like Srimati Begum Akhtar, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahib, Barkat Ali Khan Sahib, Rasulan Bai, Siddheshwari Jee, Shreemati Girija Devi Jee, and Shobha Gurtu Jee, Gurujee is the only senior Thumri exponent and very eager to share his knowledge and uniqueness of Thumri gayaki to the qualified next generation musicians. There are so many qualified and gifted young singers in our country who, if trained properly, can become good Thumri singers for the survival of this most popular genre of our country.

All classes are personally conducted by the world-renowned Guru, Padma Bhushan Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty. Gurujee personally monitors and assesses the recorded practice of every student. He is assisted by his senior students from Shrutinandan, who are exceptionally good performers and effective teachers.
